Shine: Week 1 - Day 4

OPENING PRAYER:

Heavenly Father help us to know you better and show your love to others. Amen

READ: Luke 5:31-32 (NIV)

“Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”

REFLECT:

At Matthew’s banquet the Pharisees were disturbed by the range of virtue in his guests. They were very insulted that sinners and tax collectors would be in the presence of someone who was thought to be righteous. This disturbed the Pharisees and they complained bitterly. But Jesus was not disturbed. In fact, Jesus preferred it that way!

APPLY:

The Pharisees did not value the intent of the heart but only saw the work of the law. This was completely opposite of how Jesus perceived the situation. So many times we lose focus and forget that it’s for the lost that Jesus came. Being lost usually requires some sort of map or direction. This is our mission, to be a map, a navigator to lead the lost to the true way of eternal life with God. It’s no secret that the world is in trouble and it needs a savior. We shouldn’t be surprised by it! This is the reason God sent his only son, Jesus, to redeem the lost. Always remember why Jesus came to earth and that your mission, “if you choose to accept it,” is to lead the lost to Christ. “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance”. 2 Peter 3:9
