Shine: Week 1 - Day 3
OPENING PRAYER:
Heavenly Father open our hearts with your love to reach out to those who need you most. Amen
“Then Matthew held a great banquet for Jesus at his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors and others were eating with them. But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law who belonged to their sect complained to his disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”
REFLECT:
Matthew didn’t waste any time! He immediately invited his friends and co-workers to meet Jesus by having a banquet at his house. His enthusiasm was contagious. But as we can see, the Pharisees were not impressed. They put up their guard and challenged Jesus from the very beginning. Matthew’s attempt to enlighten was faced with a lack of openness and confronted instead with criticism.
APPLY:
As we attempt to build connections, the enemy will not be happy. Like the Pharisees, Satan will attempt to discourage and breakup our efforts to connect with those who need Jesus the most. Don’t let him be victorious! Like Matthew, let’s carry on with the mission of introducing others to Jesus Christ. As we open our hearts to the lost and as these connections begin to grow, the Holy Spirit will bring many into God’s Kingdom.

CLOSING PRAYER:
Heavenly Father open our eyes to the lost and show us how we can make a difference. Amen
