As We Trust in God He Fills Us With Hope, Joy, Peace, and the Power of His Holy Spirit.
OPENING PRAYER:
Jesus, I pray I would be filled with your presence today and experience your hope and peace, Amen.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. : Romans 15:13
REFLECT:
When you picture something overflowing what comes to your mind? An overflowing coffee cup? An overflowing dam or maybe even overflow parking at a concert.
God is a God of overflow and that’s something we often forget. The word overflow in the verse above is packed full of meaning for us as we commit our lives to Jesus and follow him. Peace, hope and joy are connected to the word overflow above. But what must happen for something to be overflowing? It first has to be filled.
APPLY:
Being filled to the point of overflow is the opposite of striving - meaning you can’t work harder to overflow with more peace, joy or hope. It’s not something can be attained but instead given.
God doesn’t ask us to earn fullness, hope, peace and joy, Jesus has already earned it for us. Living in overflow of these things goes back to our identity in Christ. As children of God our identity comes from God and that’s something we can rest in. The more time we are intentional with spending with our father the more we are filled with his presence. Apart from the presence of God joy, peace and hope do not exist. How often are you making time with Jesus a priority in your life? Do you feel filled by his presence to the point of overflow?
CLOSING PRAYER:
Heavenly father, help me grow in the area of spending time with you. I pray for a deeper desire to you know more than I do right now. Amen.
