We Have Victory Over Death and the Penalty Of Sin Because of Jesus.

OPENING PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, help me be open-handed with my life and grow in my trust in you. Amen.

READ: 1 Corinthians 15:55-56

“Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 1 Corinthians 15:55-56

REFLECT:

The apostle Paul is writing above to the Corinthians that their sin no longer has power over them. He’s saying to them that their sin can no longer rule over them the way it used to you.

Paul knew that death was inevitable apart from Jesus. Sin equals death and that’s what Paul wanted them to know and it's what we are supposed to know as believers today. Sin is heavy and burdensome because it’s almost as if we are carrying around baggage wherever we go. Bags that are extremely heavy.

APPLY:

Because we believe in Jesus we don’t have to carry around our sin with us anymore. There is freedom found in Jesus. For many when asked what they felt after they’d asked Jesus into their life it’s something similar to this, “it feels as if the weight of the world has been lifted off me.”

Essentially that’s exactly what’s happened. Sin and death don’t have victory over Jesus. Jesus has called us to live a life of joy, a life of freedom and fulfillment. The only way to live life like that is to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.

Praise God we don’t have to live carrying around the baggage of our sins. We are free to put them down and trade them for freedom.

CLOSING PRAYER:

Jesus, help me live a life of freedom that I’ve got in you. Help me to continually abandon my sin and give up more of myself to you. Amen.
