Holding Arms Up

OPENING PRAYER:

God, give us the courage to reflect on what you have to say to us today.

READ: Exodus 17:11-12

As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up – one on one side, one on the other – so that his hands remained steady till sunset. Exodus 17:11-12

REFLECT:

Sometimes, even when you know you are on the right track and doing the right work, you can feel tired. It is sometimes physically, mentally, or emotionally impossible to keep putting one foot in front of the other.

God reminds Moses and us in this scripture that he sends those who will hold up our arms when we are too tired to finish the battle. Knowing the plan – having the wisdom at hand – is not what it’s all about. Sometimes, it’s about putting His love into action and using it to step in and hold each other up to finish the work ahead.

APPLY:

As we seek to live a love-centered life together, God gives us each other as gifts on this road. As we find those who have insight into our souls and our journeys, we can lean on them and allow them to hold our hands up as we grow and continue to learn and carry out God’s purpose for our lives.

CLOSING PRAYER:

God, thank you for those that hold us up as we take steps of faith. Guide our paths and help us be obedient to your truth.
