Encouragers & Prayer Warriors

OPENING PRAYER:

Jesus, let us experience you today.

READ: Acts 11:22-24; 2 Corinthians 1:10b-11

News of this reached the church in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch. When he arrived and saw what the grace of God had done, he was glad and encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord with all their hearts. He was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith, and a great number of people were brought to the Lord. Acts 11:22-24

On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, as you help us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many. Corinthians 1:10b-11

REFLECT:

The New Testament is filled with examples of teamwork. As Jesus’s followers set out to make disciples and build the Church, we see them do it in a way that shows the glory of using our God-given gifts to complement each other on mission together.

God sends us friends who will encourage and pray for us. Barnabas is a prime example of the kind of missional partnership we all need. He had a natural ability to boost the efforts of others through his prayer and encouragement.

APPLY:

As we seek to identify those in our lives that can be “our Barnabas,” we must also seek to be an encourager and a prayer warrior for those around us. We set our brothers and sisters up to be more effective in their daily missions when we fill this role. Who can you pray for and encourage today?

CLOSING PRAYER:

Jesus, thank you for your example of prayer and encouragement of others. Thank you for guiding us to live out your love through our interactions with each other.
