Unreligious: Week 2 - Day 4

OPENING PRAYER:

Lord, how can I be zealous to do your will? Amen.

READ: Matthew 5:16 NIV

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

REFLECT:

My granddaughter is truly a beacon for salty living for Christ.  She attends a large suburban high school and isn’t afraid to let people know about her faith-walk.  Her light shines so brightly at the school, she was asked to be interviewed by its newspaper about what it’s like to be a conservative in high school.  She is very outspoken about the Right to Life movement.  She has posted on Facebook about her position that the unborn are persons loved by God.  Some young people agree with her but she gets a lot of hate messages, also.  Recently she went to the “March for Life” in Washington, D.C. with her mother.  When she returned, her teacher asked her about the trip. (The teacher was supportive of her going.) When she was through, two students whispered under their breath that they wished she hadn’t come back, to which she replied that she wished she could have stayed, too.  Letting your light shine in our “P.C.” world today is difficult.  We can experience the same type of hate that our granddaughter has endured for speaking up about living a Christ-honoring life and letting it shine through for all the world to see.

APPLY:

Let’s to ask ourselves if we are hiding our light under a bushel basket.  If we are, we should begin to examine ourselves and make sure that this light really is the light of Jesus.” D. Martin Lord-Jones paraphrased)

CLOSING PRAYER:

God, bring people into my life to whom I can show my light for Christ. In his name, Amen.
