From Consumer to Producer
OPENING PRAYER:
Holy Spirit, guide us as we learn to shift from being consumers to producers in Your kingdom. Open our eyes to the opportunities to serve and make a difference. Amen.
"Jesus answered, 'Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.'"
This passage follows the miraculous feeding of the 5,000, where Jesus provided physical nourishment to a large crowd. However, He challenges the crowd's motives, pointing out that they seek Him for material benefits rather than spiritual truth. Jesus redirects their focus to the eternal nourishment He offers, which leads to everlasting life.
John 6:26-27 (NIV)
REFLECT:
Pastor Elliott’s message challenged us to move from a consumer mindset to a producer mindset in our faith journey. Rodney shared how our culture often encourages consumption, but Jesus calls us to be producers who contribute to His kingdom. The story of the feeding of the 5,000 illustrates how people often seek Jesus for what they can get rather than what they can give.
Becoming a spiritual producer means asking, "What can Jesus do through me?" rather than "What can I get from Jesus?" This shift in perspective transforms our faith from a self-centered pursuit to a Christ-centered mission. It invites us to participate in God's work and experience the joy of serving others.
Consider how you can move from being a consumer to a producer in your faith journey. What gifts, talents, or resources has God given you to bless others? Embrace the call to be a spiritual producer, knowing that your contributions have eternal significance.
