Triple-Braided Cord
OPENING PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, bind us together with your love so we can be a living, breathing Jesus to the world around us. Amen
“I observed yet another example of something meaningless under the sun. This is the case of a man who is all alone, without a child or a brother, yet who works hard to gain as much wealth as he can. But then he asks himself, “Who am I working for? Why am I giving up so much pleasure now?” It is all so meaningless and depressing. Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.” Ecclesiastes 4:7-12 NLT
REFLECT:
As we reflect on these verses, we can see how important it is for the church to be united and support each other through life’s journey. We can all agree that we are going through some difficult days. With COVID 19 and the unrest in our world today, we are hopeful to know someone who will have our backs. As we meet for weekend worship, let’s be encouraged and share the good news of Jesus with those who don’t know him.
APPLY:
Life is hard. But when you’re on your own, it can be next to impossible. Solomon’s book of Ecclesiastes is a book of comparisons of good and evil. Because God gave him wisdom, Solomon became the wisest man who ever lived. As king, he lived a life of great privilege and wealth. Pray we can learn from this abundance of wisdom and engage in growing personal relationships with our brothers and sisters in Christ. Remember, “a person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer.”
CLOSING PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, bind us together with your love and help us to show others your love. Amen
