Treasure the Gift

OPENING PRAYER:

Jesus, prepare my heart for what you have to show me today.

READ: Mark 4:39, John 5:44, Luke 2:19 (NIV)

“He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was a completely calm. He said to His disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” Mark 4:39

“How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?” John 5:44

“But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.” Luke 2:19

REFLECT:

This is such a busy time of year for us all and it comes with some giant pitfalls.

It is hard to be still and quiet.

In Mark 4, Jesus reminds us that it is important to calm our hearts and minds in the moments that feel overwhelming.

It’s easy to get caught up in the holiday life of others – especially the ones that are filtered through social media. In John 5, Jesus reminds us to stay focused on him and not others.

It is tempting to enjoy our time and experiences over the holiday season and then to forget them when January rolls around.

In Luke 2, Mary reminds us to be intentional about tucking away the things we experience because of Jesus and to meditate on them regularly.

APPLY:

Take a deep breath and give your family a few minutes to be quiet and still in faith of Jesus’ presence during this season. Be intentional about making time to reflect on what is important and how you can live in the love of Christ during this season and beyond.

CLOSING PRAYER:

Jesus, thank you for the treasured gift that we celebrate this season. Help us see it and pass it on to others through your loving kindness.
