They Will Know We are His

OPENING PRAYER:

Jesus, thank you for the example that you set for us every day.

READ: John 13:34-35 (NIV)

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35 (NIV)

REFLECT:

As we recognize that we are covered in God’s love, we also look to Jesus and his example and command to us. Jesus makes it abundantly clear that by loving others, we will be recognized as Jesus followers.

APPLY:

In the day to day, there are a lot of things that we could focus on. It would be easy to choose to give our attention to things other than the love that Christ calls us to extend to one another. Jesus felt that this was so important that it was one of his last commands to his disciples before he was taken away to die. Love is important. It is how they will know who we are and who he is.

CLOSING PRAYER:

Jesus, thank you for not only showing us how to love others well, but for making it clear that it is important to do just that. Help us follow your example. Jesus, thank you for not only showing us how to love others well, but for making it clear that it is important to do just that. Help us follow your example.
