Christmas At The Movies - Week 1 - Day 5

OPENING PRAYER:

Spirit, thank you for interceding on our behalf. Speak to us now as members of the family of God.

READ: John 1:12-13, Eph. 2:17-22, 1 John 3:1-2 (NIV)

John 1:12-13 “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God – children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.” Ephesians 2:17-22 “He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit. Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.” 1 John 3:1-2 “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. “

REFLECT:

I love genealogy. I enjoy researching my family’s history and understanding more deeply where my roots are and where I come from. I have been thrilled to be able to trace my family lines back through the centuries, solving mysteries and making fun connections along the way. The feeling of a new find in your family tree is exhilarating and makes you feel more connected than ever to the world around you.

APPLY:

As we go about our days, we should remember that everyone we meet is a child of God, made in his image and bearing his likeness as they walk this earth. We are all members of the same family, welcomed with open arms by the Father through the sacrifice of the Son.

CLOSING PRAYER:

Spirit, keep me on guard to be diligent about loving my neighbors well as they are members of my family. Guide me to extend the loving kindness that God has shown me.
