Christmas At The Movies - Week 1 - Day 4

OPENING PRAYER:

Father, thank you for sending your son to save us.

READ: John 1:10-11, John 3:16-17 (NIV)

John 1:10-11 “He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.” John 3:16-17 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. “

REFLECT:

We are living in a time of great divide. We like to think that we are on the “right” side and those who disagree with us are on the “wrong” side. It is easy to become short-sighted and even hateful to those who don’t see things our way. It is easy to fall into the trappings of this world and believe that we have the answers and that anyone who doesn’t agree with us is on the wrong path. Jesus reminds us that WHOEVER believes in him shall not perish. Jesus did not come to point fingers and condemn. He came to save. He did not come to divide. He came to provide a way for ALL who believe.

APPLY:

As we go about our days in these turbulent times, may we remember that God so loved the WORLD – not just the people that agree with us. Let us remember that people did not recognize God in flesh as he walked among them and that we can very easily fall into the same trap when we become entrenched in the ways of the world around us.

CLOSING PRAYER:

Father, keep us from becoming so entrenched in the ways of this world that we miss your presence and your hand in our lives. Help me focus on your way and not my own.
