God Is Everything
OPENING PRAYER:
Dear Lord, it’s always been you. You made everything, you are everything. Please help us to appreciate your power, glory and goodness. Help us to put our trust and faith in you during times of hardship, as well as when times are good. You are everything. We praise you!
“Then I will dwell among the Israelites and be their God. They will know that I am the Lord their God, who brought them out of Egypt so that I might dwell among them. I am the Lord their God.” Exodus 29:45-46 (NIV)
REFLECT:
Wordle, if you’re not familiar, is a daily game where you attempt to correctly guess a five-letter word in six tries or less. As you guess words you learn whether or not you have correct letters, and if you do, whether they are in the proper spot in the word or not. Let’s play a game of Wordle for today’s devotional.
Try #1: FAITH – It’s always good to start with faith. God is good. He loves us and cares for us without ceasing. Unfortunately, no letters in FAITH show up in our word today.
Try #2: SHAME – Shame is what the enemy wishes us to feel. God does not desire us to feel shame. What he desires is for our hearts to be tuned towards Him. With God there is no need to ever feel shame. Though SHAME is unnecessary, it does have two correct letters. S and E are somewhere in our word.
Try #3: HOPES – When we accept God in our life the rest of our days are filled with hope. The world is difficult, but with God our present is better and our eternity is certain. No new letters with HOPES, but we do now have an S in the right place.
Try #4: MOSES – Moses was awesome. He led his people out of slavery despite never imagining he had what it took to do something so significant. How did he do it? God. With God, anything is possible. As it turns out MOSES shows us our word has two S’s and they’re in the right place. The E is still out of place.
Try #5: FEARS – Just like shame, the enemy thrives when we are fearful. It’s easy to clutch onto the things of the world when we are scared, but when it’s God we look to we have nothing at all to fear. We don’t need FEARS but we now have the E properly placed.
Try #6: JESUS – Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding!!! Jesus is the answer!
Of course Jesus is the answer! Jesus is always the answer. Everything good comes from and through Him. It is because of Jesus that each and every one of us has the opportunity to spend eternity with God. He lived as a man and died the death we deserved only to come back to life after three days. His death paid for our sins. All we have to do is accept his free gift. Once we do we are assured eternity with God after we die. That’s pretty awesome.
APPLY:
One of the best ways to live the life God desires for us is to express gratitude as often as possible. Be intentional. Find things to be grateful for and express your gratitude. Do it verbally, in writing or in silent prayer; however it feels right, do it.
CLOSING PRAYER:
Thank you Jesus for everything. Because of you everything is better. Life in this difficult world is better. And better yet, when we die, because of you, we can spend eternity with God. Jesus, you are really, really awesome!
