God Gives You Guidance To Break Out

OPENING PRAYER:

Dear God, thank you so much for caring about my heart and who I am so much that you guide me and shape me to be more like you. Amen.

READ: 1 John 5:3, Psalm 19:7

In fact, this is love for God: to keep His commands. And His commands are not burdensome. The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. 1 John 5:3, Psalm 19:7

REFLECT:

As the Israelites were no longer in slavery in Egypt, God had given them commandments on how they should live to best honor God and each other. These commandments were not to keep the Israelites from having good lives, rather it set them up to live fulfilling and free lives.

The same is true for us today, God does not want us to be obedient to Him in order to stop us from having fun or living good lives, He wants to guide us because He ultimately wants more for us than we want for ourselves. God wants us to live lives of freedom, peace, and harmony with Himself and with others. See, where many think following Jesus is picking up a life of obeying rules, it could not be more of the opposite; it is laying down your life for a life of joy and freedom that cannot be found outside of a relationship with Jesus Christ.

APPLY:

The Scriptures above describe how God’s commands are not burdensome but instead refreshing. We will find the closer we get to Jesus the more we will be living life to the fullest.

God wants freedom for us. God wants joy for us. God wants peace for us. How can you begin to be obedient to Jesus starting today in order to experience more of His love? What in your life is hindering you from surrendering more of your life to Jesus?

CLOSING PRAYER:

Dear God, help me remember your commands are not to put me in bondage but instead to set me free. Help me live a life that honors you and honors others. Help me live a life that reflects the goodness of you. Amen.
