Flashlight Faith

OPENING PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, help me stay on Your path. When I stray, and I know I will, keep me close to you and guide me back. Amen…

READ: Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV

REFLECT:

Proverbs 3:5-6 makes me think of Pathway Church. As we learn of God and follow His path, our goal is to encourage others to follow on His path with us. At times we stray off the path and find ourselves lost. What’s worse is those who may be journeying with us may lose their way too. Our temptation is often to lean on ourselves and our own power and control all that we can. But God wants us to trust his ways knowing he has a path laid out for each of us.

APPLY:

On our life journey we will encounter many turns in the path and go through various forests. Some areas will not have much light and at times we’ll feel as if we are walking in the dark. When life gets hard and we’re in the deep, dark forest we can face many obstacles. We may see creatures that may want to harm us. Lions, and tigers, and bears, Oh my! Like the Wizard of Oz we must follow the yellow-brick road.

When we are walking in those dark forests remember your flashlight. During dark times we keep our flashlight close by. We clutch it as if our life depends on it. My previous pastor used to talk about flashlight faith. Sometimes we only have enough light to take one step. As we extend our foot to take that first enormous step it takes all the faith we can muster. It’s not about how big, or how much faith we have. Faith is faith. Remember, when we stray, God is faithful and will guide us back to the path. Each step gets us closer to our eternal home and like Dorothy we can say “Toto, we’re home. Home! – oh, Auntie Em – there’s no place like home!”

CLOSING PRAYER:

Heavenly Father; thank you for providing a life-path for me to follow. Help me stay on the path! Amen…
