Identity in Christ
OPENING PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, Help me to see who you say that I am, not my own ideal of who I am. Amen…
“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God..” 2 Corinthians 5:21 NIV
REFLECT:
Who are you? Many of life’s problems stem from not having an accurate depiction of who we truly are and we can be blind of who God made us to be. We listen to Satan’s lies and buy in to his counterfeit identity. “You are a failure, you are hopeless, or you are worthless.” Social media, leagues of well-wishers and worldly self-help groups can pour into us more questions than answers and may leave you feeling indifferent, insecure, and totally confused. Sounds pretty bleak… Don’t get me wrong, there are many groups out there that can help, but without God we have no hope of knowing who we really are. The real question is who does God say that I am?
APPLY:
Do you realize the greatness that God has placed within you? Did you know that as a Christ believer you are a reflection of Jesus to the world? Originally we were created in God’s image (Genesis 1:27) and because of the fall our identity was contaminated by sin and our image became flawed. So what are we to do? When we buy-in to the fix-it ourselves mindset we will ultimately collapse under the pressure. Our works will never measure up, but Jesus does. When we depend on His righteousness and stand in His fullness we can walk in His victory.
Life is a journey. Sometimes we get side-tracked. We may even lose our way or choose a wrong path, but Jesus will always lead us back to His perfect will for our life. When we depend on His mercy and love and not our own works we can feel at ease knowing He is in control and He will guide us. Don’t allow your failures to define you but be defined by Jesus. Live in His righteousness that Christ has secured especially for you!
CLOSING PRAYER:
Heavenly Father; thank You for sharing Your divine nature with us. It is in Jesus that we are made righteous and in Him we can live freely. Amen…
