Demonstrating Love through Service

OPENING PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, as we come to the end of our week, during this time together, help us to see how we can demonstrate Your love through our service to others. May our lives be a reflection of Your grace and truth. Amen.

READ: 1 John 3:16-18 (NIV)

"This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth."

1 John 3:16-18 (NIV)

REFLECT:

John emphasizes the importance of demonstrating love through action, reflecting the sacrificial love of Christ. This aligns with Pastor Carter’s message of serving the least and forgotten, urging us to live out our faith in practical, meaningful ways. He emphasized the parable of the sheep and goats in Matthew 25 to illustrate this point, showing us that our treatment of others reflects our relationship with Christ.

This passage in John underscores the transformative power of love. It challenges us to move beyond mere words and demonstrate our love through action. Todd’s message highlighted the importance of serving those who are often overlooked, reminding us that in doing so, we serve Christ Himself.

Personally, this reflection invites us to consider how we can demonstrate love through our actions. Are we actively seeking opportunities to serve and love others? Are we willing to step out of our comfort zones to meet the needs of those around us? This is a call to live out our faith in practical, meaningful ways, showing the love of Christ to a world in need.
