Hopkins is just such a child. Born into the destitution of the Mathare Valley slum in Nairobi, Kenya, Hopkins lost his mother to AIDS when very young. Living with his father, he was angry, and without hope—destined for a life of grief like so many thousands around him.
But God saw Hopkins, and put people into his life who cared. Hopkins was given the opportunity to attend Missions of Hope School. There he learned to love learning, but most importantly he learned to love God. With Jesus as his Savior and Lord, Hopkins’ anger was turned to love, joy, and respect for others. He now has hope for his future—a future where he sees himself helping others.
Through Pathway Church, God has used people to show love and caring to children in the Mathare Valley in a partnership with Missions of Hope International (MOHI). Our Accelerate initiative has allowed MOHI to begin building a community center in the Mabatini neighborhood of the slum. Hopkins and his classmates know it is coming. They are excited, especially for the new library with its books and computers. These books and computers will open a world of possibilities to the children of MOHI and their families. It will also house healthcare clinics, and Christ-centered community education. The building itself will be a testament to the people of Mathare Valley that they are not alone, they are not forgotten, and that people in other parts of the world truly care about them.
Hopkins is thankful for the opportunities Missions of Hope has given him. He is thankful to God, and he is thankful to Pathway Church for caring about his life, and his future.
Accelerate and this Ministry Center are possible because YOU have allowed God to work through your resources to help the children and families of the Mathare Valley. The impact of giving a child hope? Immeasurable!
