What do I do when my kid makes bad choices?
TEACHING POINTS:

• We should always pray for our kids to be filled with God’s wisdom and to follow Him.

• At times, we must back off and trust God and how He works in our kids’ lives.

• We love our kids unconditionally the way God loves us.

SCRIPTURE: Luke 15:11-32
OPENING QUESTIONS:

1. What is something weird you did as a kid? Or, if you have kids, what is something weird they do?

IN THE WORD:

1. How do you think the father felt when his younger son asked for his inheritance? Luke 15:11-12

2. Why do you think the father said “Yes” to giving the younger son his inheritance? Would you do the same? Luke 15:11-12

3. How do you think the father felt when his son was away? Luke 15:13-24

4. What sort of reception do you think the son expected when he went home? Does the father’s response surprise you? Luke 15:13-24

5. Is the older brother’s response fair? What does the father understand that the older brother does not? Luke 15:25-32

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

1. How do you or how would you parent differently than your parents? (Bonus: If you have grandkids, how is your children’s parenting different from your own?)

2. How does your relationship with God shape the way you parent?

3. How do you balance discipline and grace in your home? How does it compare to God’s discipline and grace?
