Gouge Out Your Eye
BIG IDEA:
Radically deal with sin in your life.
TEACHING POINTS:
Get rid of the sin in your life that is keeping you from being fully surrendered to Jesus.
Allowing God to transform our hearts is what makes it possible for us to deal with the sin in our lives.
SCRIPTURE:
Matthew 5:29-30 NIV
;
Ezekiel 36:26-27 NIV
Discussion Guide will be posted on Sunday at 3pm.
OPENING QUESTIONS:
How much of a barrier has money been in your walk with Jesus?
What is one thing that you are thankful for from last week?
What is something that was stressful or difficult this week and how can we help?
IN THE WORD:
Silently read through
Matthew 5 NIV
. This chapter is a major portion of what we call the Sermon on the Mount. Go around the room and answer the question: What is the big idea in this chapter and how do the specific verses of
Matthew 5:29-30
fit into that big idea?
Read
Ezekiel 36:26-27 NIV
. What is the difference between a heart of stone and a heart of flesh? How can you know if your heart leans more toward stone or flesh?
What does this story tell us about God? What does this story tell us about people?
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
What is a sin in your life that you are struggling to get rid of?
What is a step you can take this week to deal with this sin? Sometimes just being willing to share in the group what you’re struggling with and allowing people to pray for you can be a HUGE first step. Be vulnerable if you’re ready.
Is there someone in your family or someone you work with that is struggling in some area of surrendering to Jesus? How can you walk alongside them this week?
How can we pray for each other as we do this in the coming week?
