Anxiety

BIG IDEA:
As Christ-followers, we can learn to manage our anxiety and experience peace.
SCRIPTURE: Philippians 4:4-9 NIV; 1 Peter 5:7 NIV; Matthew 11:25-30 NIV
OPENING QUESTIONS:

1. Who is someone you sought, served, or shared with last week? How did that go? Remember, it’s about obedience to God’s Word and not about outcomes.

2. What is something that you are thankful for this week?

3. What was something challenging or stressful this week and how can we help you?

4. What takeaway do you have from the interview this past weekend with Mark & Nanette Potter?

IN THE WORD:

1. Paul was perhaps closer emotionally to the Philippians than to any other group to which he wrote. They had ministered to each other, and Paul was writing these words from prison in Rome while the Philippians were beginning to experience some persecution. What is Paul saying to them in these verses? Philippians 4:4-9 NIV

2. What could be some reasons for Paul and the Philippians to be anxious?

3. What is a key part of not worrying? Philippians 4:6-7 NIV

4. Where does joy come into play in managing anxiety?

5. Compare the words from Paul in Philippians to those of Jesus in Matthew 11:25-30 NIV. What are some differences and similarities?

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

1. What creates anxiety in your own life?

2. What is something from this study you can obey?

3. Who and how will you reach out to someone you know who is dealing with anxiety?
