Game Time Discussion Guide

BIG IDEA:
You have a place on God’s team, and we win if everyone plays their part.
TEACHING POINTS:

• The Church is a team.

• Every Christ follower has a part to play on the team.

• The Church, as a team, wins and loses together.

SCRIPTURE: 1 Corinthians 12 NLT
OPENING QUESTIONS:

1. What was something funny that happened to you in junior high or middle school?

2. What is the most important position on a football team and why?

IN THE WORD:

1. What is the analogy Paul uses in this text for the church and why does it fit? Does the team analogy fit as well? Why or why not? 1 Corinthians 12 NLT

2. Why do we categorize certain parts of the body and certain roles on a team as more important than others? 1 Corinthians 12:24-26 NLT

3. What are some of the excuses that we can relate to for not playing on God's team? 1 Corinthians 12:14-26 NLT

4. How would you characterize and put in your own words what Paul says about unity? 1 Corinthians 12:20-25 NLT

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

1. Are there roles in the church that feel more important than others? What kind of a role/gift do you have and where does it fit in terms of the church as a team or a body analogy?

2. If you have been baptized, you are now “suited up”. Where do you need to get in the game? Who do you need to share with about baptism? Your own story?

3. On a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being not at all and 5 being fully engaged, where would you be in terms of being on the “church team”? Do you need to up your game? How could you do that?

4. Spend some time praying and thanking each other for the gifts/roles that each of you play or see yourself playing in the church.
