You Were Created to be Like Christ

BIG IDEA:
You were created to be like Christ.
TEACHING POINTS:
  • Become like Jesus by running naked.
  • Become like Jesus by persevering through adversity.
  • Become like Jesus by focusing on him.
SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 12:1-13 NIV; 2 Peter 2:20 NIV; Isaiah 40:29 NIV
OPENING QUESTIONS:
  1. How did you do last week with your "I will" statement? (Providing a meal for a healthcare worker or someone who is sick)
  2. What is one thing that you are thankful for from last week?
  3. What is something that was stressful or difficult this week and how can we help?

IN THE WORD:
  1. Read Hebrews 12:1-3 out loud from two different translations. Have two people in your group tell the analogy as if you were sharing it with someone who was a new follower of Jesus.
  2. Read Romans 12:4-11 NIV out loud. What is the analogy used here? What are three points about discipline from God that the writer is making?
  3. What does this teaching tell us about God? What does this teaching tell us about people?

MAKING IT PERSONAL:
  1. As a runner in this great race of faith, what is God saying to you this week that you need to do to stay in the race?
  2. How can we pray for you and for each other as we do this in the coming week?

I will confess one sin to someone this week.
