Unreligious: Week 3 - Day 3

OPENING PRAYER:

Dear Lord, please help us to forgive as Jesus has forgiven each of us. Help us hand over our burdens to you so we can worship you unencumbered.

READ: Matthew 5:24 (NIV)

“…leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift.”

REFLECT:

I mostly have fond memories of dinnertime as a kid, but there were definitely times I didn’t like, such as hearing: You need to clean your plate before…going out to play, getting dessert, etc. I didn’t like it at the time, but with age, reflection, and a kid of my own, I see that my parents only wanted what was best for me. They knew I needed to take care of my basic, essential needs for food in order to be my best self for whatever came next. Just as our parents wanted the best for us, God wants the best from us. We can’t give him our best if we are distracted with unresolved conflict with another person. Jesus maintains grace for all of us even though we constantly fall short. Follow his example and seek reconciliation with whomever you find yourself in dispute. Free your heart and mind to worship God fully.

APPLY:

Are you currently in the middle of a conflict with someone that is simmering in the background? If so, reach out to them and seek reconciliation.

CLOSING PRAYER:

Thank you, Jesus for the guidance you provide. The world is full of darkness, but you provide the light we need to find our way.
