Jesus, the Son, Gives Us a Mission

OPENING PRAYER:

Jesus, open our hearts to what you have to teach us this week. Meet us right where we are and show us your way.

READ:

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35

REFLECT:

As we walk through this Holy Week, it is important that we take time to think about what Jesus’ time on earth meant and the impact that it has on us today. His time in the flesh was pivotal to all that we believe and should impact how we live out each day.

In addition to the core sacrifice and salvation that we celebrate during Easter, we carry with us the legacy of Jesus’ earthly ministry and the mission that he gave us.

Jesus gave us an example of how to handle our relationships with God and with each other. He was humble, kind, honest, and steadfast. He was generous, forgiving, and relational.

Right before his death, Jesus gave us a new command: “Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

APPLY:

Jesus was clear with his new command: he put us on mission to love like he did. If we value his life, work, and sacrifice, this is the mission that we must carry on each day.

How are you carrying forward Jesus’ mission in your day-to-day?

CLOSING PRAYER:

Jesus, help me be honest with myself and with you about how I am carrying on your mission of love.
