Faithfulness in Difficult Situations
OPENING PRAYER:
Heavenly Father thank you for providing a way out when we are tempted.
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13
REFLECT:
In Genesis 39, Joseph was good looking and a favorite of Potiphar, one of Pharaoh’s top men. Potiphar’s wife put Joseph in a bad position and lied about what happened to him. Remember, Joseph at this point in his life had been nearly killed by his brothers who then sold him into slavery. At this point in his life, he had worked himself up to a very important position in Potiphar’s house. Potiphar’s wife was beautiful and seductive and she literally had the power of life and death over Joseph, but he resisted the temptation and was faithful to his boss, He had many reasons to be unfaithful to, but he resisted that temptation and was faithfulGod continues to remind us to keep doing good no matter when we suffer. He will protect us from the evil one.
APPLY:
Have you ever been in a position that God provided a way out? Did he send someone to intervene for you? Have you had someone lie about something you did not do? Joseph’s story is amazing! He was faithful to God and God shined in his life…over time. Can you recount a time in your life that God did the same for you? I remember a time when God saved me, and I woke up and I was safe. I thanked God over and over for saving my life. We must pray when someone lies about us or when we endure any kind of difficulty. Simply bring it to God and allow him to help you be faithful. He is a great big God and he can do anything.
CLOSING PRAYER:
Loving Father,
We praise You for Your faithfulness.
On the mountaintop or in the valley, Your goodness does not cease.
We pray that goodness flows from us as a natural outpouring of Your Spirit.
May we follow Your lead to love and serve with no need for humankind's empty praise.
Keep us humble as we walk this path led by Your love.
