Faithfulness Commended

OPENING PRAYER:

Heavenly Father help us to be faithful to the end as we fix our eyes on Jesus.

READ: Luke 19:11-19, Revelation 2:10, Hebrews 3:1-6, Matthew 25:23

Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest. He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house. Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself. For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything. Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house, bearing witness to what would be spoken by God in the future. But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory. Hebrews 3:1-6

REFLECT:

God is the builder of everything. He will put us in charge of many things if we are faithful with one. In Luke 19, Jesus tells a story about a man that becomes King even though he is not liked. The King gives money to his servants and they surprise him and invest it, some more than others. He commends those servants who faithfully invested what they were given and condemns those who didn’t. The Hebrew writer is reminding us that God wants us to be faithful to build his house, realizing that ultimately Jesus is the one who is the builder and we, like Moses, are those he uses.

APPLY:

We have been given gifts from God and we are asked to share and multiply. We can’t hide what we have and expect anything in return. We must remember that everything is God’s and we will be tempted. If we remain faithful God will reward us. Have you experienced God’s blessing? I certainly have many times. He amazes me whether its unexpected money in my account, a friend that helps me or a student that calls me Mom and tells me they love me. I have seen miracles in Haiti and Africa. What are you doing to be a faithful builder of God’s Kingdom, that God will commend you for? Believe and stay Faithful.

CLOSING PRAYER:

Loving Father, We praise You for Your faithfulness. On the mountaintop or in the valley, Your goodness does not cease. We pray that goodness flows from us as a natural outpouring of Your Spirit. May we follow Your lead to love and serve with no need for humankind's empty praise. Keep us humble as we walk this path led by Your love. In the name of Your Son Jesus, Amen.
