Fully Devoted Choices
OPENING PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, I seek your will and desire to make fully devoted choices. Help me to choose to be totally devoted to you. Amen
“…choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15 NIV
REFLECT:
Everything we do in life starts with a choice. Choice was given to us by God. God did not want a world of robots who obey because they had to. He wants individuals who will choose to love and serve him out of a heart of love. With that in mind, how do we become more like Jesus and be fully devoted to him? We know we are beholding to him and we owe the Lord our all. The question is; what stands in our way of making the choice to become fully devoted to God?
APPLY:
The Bible speaks of a lot of people being devoted to God through a holy act of consecration. Men and women fully devoted their lives to God; however, no one has been completely successful in fulfilling this goal except for Jesus. We all stumble, we all make mistakes, we all get discouraged, yet we must continue to choose to live our lives fully devoted to God, knowing he is the only one who can really help us fulfill that choice.
Joshua 24 sums up with the challenge of choice. Decisions all begin with making choices to go a certain direction or do a certain thing. When we take a trip, we must chart a course to arrive at our chosen destination. It’s foolish to think we can just meander through life and end up on the right path arriving at the designated destination. Also, like riding a horse, when you fall off (and you will) choose to get back up on the horse. Choosing to devote ourselves to God is the first choice among many that we will make in our life’s journey. Make the decision and ask God to help you fulfill that choice. When looking back, it is amazing to see all God has done for us when we choose to make fully devoted choices.
“Only one life, the still small voice, gently pleads for a better choice, bidding me selfish aims to leave,
And to God’s holy will to cleave. Only one life, ’twill soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last.” - C.T. Studd
CLOSING PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, I desire to be fully devoted to you and make fully devoted choices. Help me to follow your calling. If I stumble, pick me up. If I make a mistake, show me the way. If I get discouraged, encourage me with your presence. Amen
