What To Do When Conflict Arises In Your Marriage

OPENING PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, help me to listen to the right voices when it comes to my marriage. Amen.

READ: Proverbs 15:22, Psalms 32:8 (NIV)

Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed. Proverbs 15:22

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. Psalm 32:8

REFLECT:

In life, conflict is almost unavoidable. We know at some point conflict will arise and, if we’re honest, none of us are wishing for more conflict, especially when it comes to our marriage. When it comes to our marriage, we will have conflicts that require additional voices for guidance and counsel. The verses above tell us that with good advisors a plan will succeed. More importantly, our marriage will succeed. We also see that when we take time and invite God into our marriage, he’s there to shepherd us by helping us shape the direction of our marriage.

APPLY:

We have many choices on whose voice we listen to. We get to decide who we’ll allow to speak into our marriage, and this is something we’ve got to be on guard about. We surely don’t want someone with bad advice or someone who doesn’t have our best interests at heart to be giving us marriage advice. There are ways we can identify who we can look to for Godly counsel and wisdom. Who has God put in your life already? Has someone been a guide for you in your marriage in the past? Perhaps it is someone from your home team, a pastor, or even a professional Christian counselor.

CLOSING PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, help me to identify who could be a Godly counsel for my marriage. Help me be calm and seek you through times of conflict in my marriage. Amen.
