The Foundation That Never Fails
OPENING PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, open our hearts to the truth of Your Word. May Your Spirit guide us to build our lives on the unshakeable foundation of Scripture, trusting in its eternal reliability and wisdom.
"Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word. With this in mind, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught."
Luke 1:1-4 (NIV)
REFLECT:
In the message, we were reminded of the importance of building our lives on a foundation stronger than ourselves. Luke, a physician and historian, meticulously investigated the life of Jesus to provide an orderly account. His purpose was clear: to offer certainty about the teachings of Christ. This certainty is not just for Theophilus, but for us today. Pastor Jarred Peine emphasized that the Bible is not merely a human book but a divinely inspired text that has withstood the test of time, outlasting empires and critics.
Luke's approach to writing his Gospel is akin to a true crime investigator, seeking out eyewitnesses and carefully documenting their testimonies. This methodical approach assures us that the Bible is not a collection of myths or legends, but a reliable historical document. Jarred's story about the man who resolved to run every day but ended up with a three-month backlog humorously illustrates how we often set goals without a solid foundation. Similarly, our spiritual lives require a foundation built on the truth of God's Word.
As we reflect on this passage, consider the reliability of Scripture in your own life. Are there areas where you have doubted its truth? Jarred challenged us to fact-check the lies of the world against the truth of the Bible. This year, let us commit to building our lives on the certainty of God's Word, allowing it to guide and transform us.
