Jesus Gives Me Life Direction Which The World Does Not Understand
OPENING PRAYER:
Lord, help me to listen to the Holy Spirit as I consider new opportunities for my life direction. Amen.
“I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.” John 16:12-15 NIV
REFLECT:
Throughout my life God has guided me, through the direction of the Holy Spirit, when I moved for career opportunities. These moves have not always been understood by friends and family. One glaring move that upset some of our friends was our move to San Jose, CA to teach at San Jose Bible College. One individual could not understand why I would leave a career path in which I had a guaranteed income with a nice retirement. Bible Colleges were not known for making salary on a regular basis and the move took us a long way from family. They felt I should protect my family and play it safe.
My wife and I prayed about it and had been encouraged to do it by our church staff. The move proved to be a very rewarding experience. Through interactions with college personnel, we grew in our faith and have many long-time friends from our time there. It proved to be the right move for us.
APPLY:
God has a plan for your life as he has for me. It is important to listen to his guidance which can come through his Word, prayer, advice from others, and your own excitement about the opportunity. You should not be afraid to strike out in a different direction if you definitely feel God’s leading through the Holy Spirit.
CLOSING PRAYER:
Lord help me trust in you with all my heart; and to not lean on my own understanding as I consider the direction for my life. (Proverbs 3:5-6) Amen.
