You Can’t Serve God And Money

OPENING PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, help me see and understand that you alone are meant to have my worship. Amen.

READ: Matthew 6:24 (NIV)

“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” Matthew 6:24 (NIV)

REFLECT:

When we think of what the word worship means, maybe your mind goes to bowing down, praying, singing, or perhaps being thankful. When we look at the definition of the word worship what we find is this: to honor or show reverence for a divine being or supernatural power.

God is both divine in his deity and supernatural in his ways. To worship God means to honor him in everything we do and show our reverence for him in all we are. Worship is a way of life, not following a law or written rules. Essentially, what we place our hope in gets our worship. For us, as believers, that place of worship should be occupied by God.

APPLY:

Worshipping God is much more than just not loving money before him, it’s placing your hope and trust in him. Let’s ask ourselves, where is my hope and trust? Where do I place my worship? Do I run to God when I have a problem, or do I run to check my bank account first? Or do I run to gossip about it? Our reverence and honor of God should be before anything else we have going on in life. God can sustain the weight of your worship because his well never runs dry. He can satisfy and provide for you in ways you don’t even know you need yet.

CLOSING PRAYER:

Dear God, help me to worship you and love you above anything else in my life. Help me live the way of worship every day. Amen.
