Everything We Have Is A Blessing

OPENING PRAYER:

Dear Jesus, help me understand how blessed I truly am. Amen.

READ: James 1:16-17 (NIV)

“Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” James 1:16-17 (NIV)

REFLECT:

In college, I had a friend named Ken who was an older and a more experienced follower of Jesus. Ken owned a non-profit whose main goal was to be a blessing to students who were attending the college I was in. Ken took me to dinner and helped me financially because I was a struggling college student. Ken answered tough questions I had, and he even let me in on some of his home team meals. Ken was such a blessing not only to me but many other students.

As I reflect on this, I can’t help but think about how God thinks of us. Just like Ken, God is out to bless us and be good to us. He really is a good father who wants good things for his children. God gives to us generously and all the things we have come from him whether we realize it or not.

APPLY:

I made a list recently of all the good things I have in my life. I wrote down everything I could think of, and I stared at the list. I was brought to tears because there’s not one good thing on that list that I can’t trace back to God one way or another. It’s evidence of his love. Have you ever written down a blessings list? Take time and write down the good things you have in your life. It will posture your heart towards being grateful. You may be surprised at how many things you can trace back to be blessings from God.

CLOSING PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, help me be grateful for what you’ve blessed me with. Amen.
