A Legacy Of Faith

OPENING PRAYER:

Dear Father, because I know that You have the words of truth, I ask for insight and encouragement today from Your Word. In Jesus name, Amen.

READ: Deuteronomy 6:20-24 NIV

In the future, when your son asks you, "What is the meaning of the stipulations, decrees and laws the LORD our God has commanded you?" tell him: "We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, but the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand. Before our eyes the LORD sent signs and wonders-great and terrible-on Egypt and Pharaoh and his whole household. But he brought us out from there to bring us in and give us the land he promised on oath to our ancestors. The LORD commanded us to obey all these decrees and to fear the LORD our God, so that we might always prosper and be kept alive, as is the case today. Deuteronomy 6:20-24 NIV

REFLECT:

A friend once asked me, "when is the best time to plant an oak tree? Answer: twenty years ago. When is the next best time to plant? Answer: Today." Strong sturdy oaks take years to root deep and grow strong, but once grown they stand firm and tall for years. Building a legacy of faith in your family starts early and often. History lessons we share of how God has been faithful and loving to us can be remembered long after we are gone. How God "brought us out" and "promised on oath to our ancestors" create lasting memories and faith for generations. How the church we attend started in a small elementary school through the faithfulness of parents and friends. How the family got through the death of a child because of faith in a God who brought comfort and peace and promise. These are stories and experiences shared that make faith strong and lasting.
