How To Make The Choice To Surrender to Jesus Everyday
OPENING PRAYER:
"Dear Jesus, I open my mind and my heart today for you to lead me in the way of surrender. Amen.”
READ:
“Now then, my children, listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways. Listen to my instruction and be wise; do not disregard it. Blessed are those who listen to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway. For those who find me find life and receive favor from the Lord. (Proverbs 8:32-35)
But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end. As has just been said: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion.” (Hebrews 3:13-15)
REFLECT:
We have many choices every day in our lives; what to wear, what to eat, where to go, what to buy and what to watch. These choices may not seem like much on the surface, but they are forming our thought patterns and creating habits. The choices we make now affect who we’ll be in the future.
Much like our life choices, we have a choice every day to surrender to Jesus in our daily lives. In the book of Proverbs above we see God say, “blessed are those who listen to him” and those who do find life and favor. Saying “yes” to Jesus daily again and again forms a habit of obedience.
APPLY:
When going throughout the day, let’s be intentional about surrendering and being obedient daily. When we’re driving and someone cuts us off, be slow to anger. When we are shopping and see someone trying to leave with their hands full, that’s an opportunity to show kindness by holding the door open. When we are faced with making a difficult decision that will impact our family, set emotions aside and surrender it to Jesus. Surrendering daily creates habits that are not only good for us, but good for the sake of others.
CLOSING PRAYER:
“Jesus, I surrender to you today. Help me see ways today I can take a step of obedience by showing kindness, forgiveness, and self-control. Amen.”
