Seeking the Truth
OPENING PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, grant us your wisdom so we can find freedom in your truth. Amen
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5 NIV
REFLECT:
Overcome addiction by seeking the truth of your situation. What is real truth? In our world today, I often hear people crying out for genuine truth, yet looking for answers from all the wrong places. There are many ways we tend to seek this truth. We can find ourselves comparing ourselves with others. We can search Google for any topic to confirm our version of the truth. We can even seek counsel from others who will justify our position. Or, we can just turn the channel to find the best variety of truth you want. It is easy to find ways to rationalize our position or become even more critical of ourselves. Do we even recognize our addictions? Are we truly capable of seeing the truth of our own condition? How can we properly seek the truth in our individual situation?
APPLY:
An addiction is described as an unusually great interest in something or a need to do or have something. It will express itself as a need, habit, dependence, compulsion, obsession, infatuation, just to name a few. To overcome, we must seek God’s truth to find help in our situation. My favorite scripture to resolve this dilemma is Psalms 139:23-24. “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” As I pray this verse, I can be confident that God is faithful to show me his truth in my situation and lead me into his perfect will for my life. I’m convinced that there is only one true truth. Jesus said in John 14:6: Jesus answered, “I am the way and the TRUTH and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Jesus is the genuine living truth. Ask for his wisdom and he will give generously to all without finding fault and we can find his overcoming power to rescue us from ourselves.
CLOSING PRAYER:
Heavenly Father; help us to cast our burdens upon Jesus because he cares for us and will deliver us from our addictions. Amen
