Jesus Understands
OPENING PRAYER:
Father, thank you for the opportunity to come before you. Silence anything that might get in the way of my time with you today.
“Surely, he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.” Isaiah 53:4-6
REFLECT:
Jesus is God made flesh. He was sent to walk among us and he felt our human emotions. I’m sure Jesus felt joy, excitement, and love while he was on Earth. But I’m sure he also felt fear, anxiety, and disappointment while he walked among humans as well. Jesus came to Earth to ultimately be rejected and to suffer in his human flesh. If anyone can understand our pain and anxieties, it would be this suffering servant of God.
It’s so easy to feel alone when we are struggling with our anxieties. We can often feel that no one could possibly understand what we are going through. These feelings of isolation can make it especially difficult to reach out to others for help and to be honest about what we are facing.
Jesus knows our struggles. He has felt the emotions and the anxieties that we feel. We can bring our feelings right to the feet of Jesus knowing that he understands.
APPLY:
We can overcome anxiety by knowing that Jesus understands our suffering. Read Luke 22:39-46 this week to help remind you that Jesus knows how we feel when we bring our anxieties, hurts and disappointments to him.
CLOSING PRAYER:
Father, what a miracle that our savior knows exactly how we feel. Thank you for sending Jesus to Earth so that we can be confident that our God understands us fully.
