He Who Overcomes!

OPENING PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, fill us with your power to overcome anything that gets in the way of serving you. Amen

READ: Philippians 3:13-14 NIV

“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

REFLECT:

Overcome addiction by not quitting and persevering. In Revelation 2 and 3 there are seven letters to seven churches in which the Lord describes their positive and negative attributes. Each church is evaluated by its own works, challenged for its failures, and rewarded for its success. In each letter the Lord sums up by saying to each church “He who overcomes will receive” and with this phrase each church receives a specific prize according to God’s decree. I encourage you to read these letters as they are so relevant in today’s world.

APPLY:

In our world today it is important not to lose faith in God’s redeeming work. As we see so many challenges, it can become overwhelming. To be an overcomer it is critical to realize where our victory is found. In Psalm 61:1-3 NKJV “Hear my cry, O God; Attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to you. When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For you have been a shelter for me, a strong tower from the enemy.” When we cry out to the Lord, he will protect us from the enemy and bring us strength in our time of need. Search the scriptures for verses that will encourage you and bring peace to your situation. These scriptures can be a lifeline in your daily journey which will last you a lifetime. Jesus is the true overcomer and by pressing forward and persevering with him we can be, too!

CLOSING PRAYER:

Heavenly Father; thank you for your victory against the evil one. We cling to you, our rock that will hold us fast and lead us to overcome. Amen
