The Light Within: Unveiling Your Radiance

OPENING PRAYER:

Holy Spirit, illuminate our hearts and minds as we seek to understand the depth of Your calling to be the light in this world. Guide us to reflect Your love and truth in all we do.

READ: Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV)

"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

REFLECT:

In the message, Pastor Elliott emphasized that Jesus calls us the light of the world, a profound identity that carries both privilege and responsibility. Imagine a city on a hill, visible from miles away, its lights a beacon in the night. This is the image Jesus uses to describe our role in the world. We are not just passive recipients of His light; we are active participants in His mission to dispel darkness.

Rodney asked everyone, right there in the middle of his message, to text someone to offer prayer, a simple act that can illuminate the darkness in another's life. This act of reaching out is a tangible way to let our light shine. It’s not about grand gestures but about small, consistent acts of love and kindness that reflect Jesus’ heart.

Consider the light bulb analogy from the message. A bulb without power is just glass and metal, but when connected to electricity, it becomes a source of light. Similarly, our connection to God through prayer and His Word empowers us to shine brightly. Without this connection, we risk becoming like a burnt-out bulb, unable to fulfill our purpose.

As we reflect on this passage, let us ask ourselves: Are we hiding our light under a bowl, or are we placing it on a stand for all to see? The world is in desperate need of hope and truth, and we have the privilege of being conduits of God’s light. Let us embrace this calling with joy and determination.

I WILL STATEMENT:

I will pray for God to change my heart for the one He has placed in my life.

Be part of a unified movement of prayer by texting PRAYER to (316) 444-4180. You’ll receive a weekly reminder every Wednesday at 1:54 PM to pray for your “one.” The time is inspired by Luke 15:4, where the shepherd goes after the one lost sheep. This is a simple way to join with others across our church community—wherever you are—as we commit to praying together through November 26. Even when we're apart, we can still be part of something bigger than ourselves.

CLOSING PRAYER:

Father, thank You for calling us to be the light in this world. Help us to stay connected to You, our source of power, so that we may shine brightly and lead others to Your love. Amen.
