Rooted In Surrender- Day 4

OPENING PRAYER:

Spirit, open my eyes to the things unseen today…the things I’ve been blinded to or intentionally closed my eyes against.

READ:

“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:29-31 (NIV)

REFLECT:

We worship things every day. As we make decisions on how we will spend our time and resources, we reflect our priorities and what our hearts are truly focused on. This can be very telling and gives us important perspective.

The way that we choose to spend our time and money lays open our hearts and where we seek to place our adoration. As we seek to worship God above all else, it is important to take time to reflect on what we are adoring with our day-to-day decisions.

APPLY:

As Jesus lived his earthly life, he did not pursue a life in the highest of societies, rubbing elbows and networking with those in power in order to accumulate wealth. He walked, lived, and dined with the lowest of society, the untouchables, and the heartbroken.

If we truly seek to follow Christ’s example of surrender, we must surrender our desire for the biggest and best for ourselves and learn to pursue the best for all of God’s children.

CLOSING PRAYER:

Jesus, help me surrender the small dreams that I have for myself in exchange for the bigger dreams that you have for all your children. Spur me to act in a way that honors your surrender and sacrifice.
