Walls
OPENING PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, help us to give our all to your kingdom’s work. We pray for those around us and help us be a reflection of your light. Amen
When the trumpets sounded, the army shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the men gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so, everyone charged straight in, and they took the city.” Joshua 6:20
“The wall was finished on the twenty-fifth day of Elul. It had taken fifty-two days. When all our enemies heard the news and all the surrounding nations saw it, our enemies totally lost their nerve. They knew that God was behind this work.” Nehemiah 6:15-16
REFLECT:
The two scripture references above relate to walls and what can happen when people come together in work and battle. Both stories tell of great victories and accomplishment. God directed Joshua to instruct the Israelites to blow horns and march around Jericho’s walls. On the seventh day the walls fell and Israel conquered Jericho.
The second story is about Nehemiah and the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s walls. When the Jews came back from Babylon, there was great opposition and oppression. Next to God, the walls were their major form of protection but they were reduced to rubble. A task that would normally be impossible, rebuilding the wall in fifty-two days became possible because the people had a mind to work and they worked together.
APPLY:
We meet for weekend worship because we are a family and a team. Whatever walls that are before us can be conquered by coming together as a team. Sometimes the methods are unusual, but God can work through our unity to build his kingdom.
CLOSING PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, help us to see how much we need each other and fill us with your love to draw us together.” Amen
