Whispers of Worth: Hearing God's Voice in the Silence
OPENING PRAYER:
Holy Spirit, open our hearts to hear Your voice above the noise of our failures and fears. Help us to see ourselves through Your eyes, as beloved and chosen, despite our weaknesses. Amen.
"When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, 'The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.'"
REFLECT:
This past weekend, in Pastor Jarred Peine's message, we learned about Gideon, a man who saw himself as the least in his family and from the weakest clan. Yet, God called him a "mighty warrior." This divine perspective is a powerful reminder that God sees more in us than we often see in ourselves. Jarred shared a personal story about feeling inadequate due to being overweight, a visible failure that whispered lies of unworthiness. Similarly, Gideon was hiding in fear, threshing wheat in a winepress, when God called him to lead Israel to victory.
This story challenges us to consider the names and labels we accept from the world. Are we listening to the whispers of failure, or are we tuning into God's voice that calls us beloved, chosen, and capable? Jarred emphasized that God doesn't define us by our current circumstances but by the potential He sees in us. Just as Gideon was called a mighty warrior while he was still hiding, we are called to step into the identity God has for us, even when we feel unworthy.
The transformation begins when we start believing what God says about us. Jarred encouraged us to surround ourselves with God's people who speak truth into our lives and to immerse ourselves in Scripture, where God declares us wonderfully made and His masterpiece. This shift in perspective can break the cycle of failure and propel us into the life God has planned.
I WILL STATEMENT:
I will tear down one altar in my life. Can you identify one negative label or lie you have believed about yourself? Write it down and then write a truth from Scripture that counters it.
CLOSING PRAYER:
Father, thank You for seeing more in us than we see in ourselves. Help us to embrace Your truth and walk confidently in the identity You have given us. Amen.
