We Have Hope and Power Because God Keeps His Promises.

OPENING PRAYER:

Dear God, thank you for keeping your promise of salvation through Jesus. Help me hold fast to my salvation today Lord, Amen

READ: Luke 24:1-8

On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.

While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ” Then they remembered his words. Luke 24:1-8

REFLECT:

The story taking place in the scripture above was not joyful at the time. Just three days earlier Jesus had been crucified and laid in the tomb, it looked hopeless.

As the women went to the tomb and saw Jesus wasn’t in there they were shocked. They had to be wondering what happened to Jesus’ body. In the text a couple verses below it says even Peter who was a disciple was wondering what had happened.

When they saw the two angels they fell down in worship but they were reminded of what Jesus had been telling them the entire time. The women were told three words that have changed the course of human history, ‘he has risen!.

APPLY:

For us we can experience times that are not joyful. Situations that seem dead and hopeless. Just like the angels said to the women at the tomb, let’s be reminded today of the same three words, ‘he is risen!” Those three words mean the world for us as believers. Because it means God keeps his promises. He keeps his promise of salvation and gives us a way to be saved through Jesus never having to experience eternal darkness. If your situation doesn’t look good, be reminded today that Jesus gets the final word. Hopelessness is where Jesus does his greatest work.

CLOSING PRAYER:

Dear God, help me remember that you are a promise keeper today. Help me remember that you are my way maker. Thank you for who you are and I pray I would not forget what you’ve done for me. Amen.
