Understanding Our Brokenness

OPENING PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, as we begin this devotional journey this week, open our hearts and minds to understand our brokenness and the depth of Your love for us. Holy Spirit, guide us and reveal Your truth through Your Word. Amen.

READ: Titus 3:3 (NIV)

"At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived, and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another."

REFLECT:

In this passage, Paul is reminding Titus of the state of humanity before knowing Christ. This verse sets the stage for understanding the depth of our brokenness and the need for God's intervention.

Paul's letter to Titus is a powerful reminder of our past state before encountering the transformative power of Jesus Christ. He uses strong language to describe our former lives: foolish, disobedient, deceived, and enslaved by passions and pleasures. This paints a vivid picture of a life without Christ, marked by malice, envy, and hatred.

Understanding our brokenness is crucial because it highlights our need for a Savior. It's easy to compare ourselves to others and think we are doing well, but God's standard is different. He calls us to a higher level of goodness and righteousness, one that we cannot achieve on our own. Reflecting on our past mistakes and recognizing our brokenness helps us appreciate the grace and mercy that God extends to us.

This reflection is not meant to bring guilt but to bring awareness. Awareness of our need for God and His transformative power. It is a humbling experience to realize that despite our flaws and failures, God loves us and offers us a way out of our brokenness through Jesus Christ. As you reflect on your past mistakes consider writing them down and pray over them, asking God to help you move beyond these areas and embrace His healing and transformation.

I WILL STATEMENT:

I will let God’s Word remind me of who I am.

CLOSING PRAYER:

Lord, thank You for revealing the truth about our brokenness. Help us to move beyond our past and embrace the new life You offer through Jesus Christ. Guide us as we seek to understand and apply Your Word in our lives. Amen.
