The Power of Humility and Service
OPENING PRAYER:
Lord, as we explore Your Word today, teach us the power of humility and service. Help us to follow Jesus' example in our daily lives. Amen.
"Jesus called them together and said, 'You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.'"
Mark 10:42-45 (NIV)
REFLECT:
In this passage, Jesus is teaching His disciples about true greatness. He contrasts the worldly view of power and authority with the kingdom view of humility and service.
His teaching in this passage is revolutionary. In a world where power and authority are often seen as the ultimate goals, Jesus turns this idea on its head. He tells His disciples that true greatness comes from being a servant and that the first must be the slave of all. This is a radical departure from the way the world views power and success.
Jesus Himself is the ultimate example of this teaching. He did not come to be served but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many. His entire ministry was marked by humility and sacrificial service. This is the model that we, as His followers, are called to emulate.
For new believers, this might mean starting to understand the importance of humility and service in the Christian life. For mature Christians, it could be a call to deeper reflection on how well their lives reflect Jesus' example of service. The key takeaway is that true greatness in God's kingdom is found in humility and service.
I WILL STATEMENT:
I WILL have a political conversation this week where I demonstrate Jesus’ love over my political positions.
CLOSING PRAYER:
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your example of humility and service. Help me to follow in Your footsteps and to serve others with a humble heart. Teach me to find true greatness in serving others and in putting their needs before my own. Amen.
