The Bible is True

OPENING PRAYER:

Dear Lord, please help me seek your wisdom and guidance daily. Help me trust your word is true, and follow your word in all that I do.

READ: 1 Thessalonians 2:11-14 (NIV)

For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.

And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe. For you, brothers and sisters, became imitators of God’s churches in Judea, which are in Christ Jesus: You suffered from your own people the same things those churches suffered from the Jews… 1 Thessalonians 2:11-14 (NIV)

REFLECT:

I currently have a personnel issue at work. I am a manager (teacher) and have a subordinate (student) who is consistently disruptive and difficult to manage. Each day is something different, so attempting different strategies to address particular behaviors has felt futile. At this point I’m fed up and angry. If left to myself and myself alone to deal with this subordinate (student) I feel the only thing left to do is be mean, harsh and cause this person pain. Thankfully, despite my human desire to figure things out on my own, I have chosen to allow the word of God to be a source of truth and wisdom in my life.

Right when I was approaching the point of lashing out I happened to be reading from Romans 12:21 that says, “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” It was a great reminder that no matter the challenges and obstacles I face, at work or in any other situation, God calls me to love and do what is good and right. That insight was much needed at the time, and it helped me to renew my patience for my subordinate (student) for the week ahead. God’s word is true and right. He has a knack for presenting just what you need right when you need it when you make spending time with Him a part of your daily life.
