Read This - Luke 2:15-19
"When the angels had returned to heaven, the shepherds said to each other, 'Let's go to Bethlehem! Let's see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.' They hurried to the village and found Mary and Joseph. And there was the baby, lying in the manger. After seeing him, the shepherds told everyone what had happened and what the angel had said to them about the child. All who heard the shepherds' story were astonished, but Mary kept all these things in her heart and thought about them often."
Think About This - Mary and Joseph had come to Bethlehem all alone. They had no family or friends to help them when it came time for Jesus to be born. They were in a strange place, a barn, with animals. Mary and Joseph must have wondered, "Is it really true that this baby is the Son of God?"
The Shepherds were minding their own business in the middle of the night, taking care of their sheep. The announcement of the Angels about the birth of Jesus had to be exciting and maybe frightening as well, seeing the sky filled with angels. The Shepherds must have wondered as they went to Bethlehem, "Is it really true or was it a dream that we saw angels and they told us that God's Son, the Messiah is born...in a barn?"
It must have been wonderful when Mary & Joseph met the shepherds and the shepherds met Mary & Joseph. As they met at the manger where Jesus was born, they realized that it was true! Seeing the baby just like the angels had said brought peace to the shepherds. Seeing the shepherds who had heard from an angel that God's son was born brought peace to Mary & Joseph.
The scripture reminds us that Mary never forgot the visit of the shepherds and she often thought about them. It brought peace to her heart that no matter what she was going through, Jesus had come. It was true and it brought her peace.
