24 When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife.
This is a very simple and straightforward verse. On the surface, this seems like an anticlimactic way to end this miraculous story of the birth of our Savior, doesn’t it? But in reality, this verse is anything but simple, it’s an incredible example of obedience. What Joseph was commanded to do in this dream completely changed his life. He didn’t wake up and question God or ask God to tell him exactly how he was supposed to raise the Savior of the world. No, he woke up and did exactly as he was told. He must have been feeling so many things and he could have chosen to run the opposite direction like Jonah did, or told God he would prefer to just lead a “normal” life. Instead, Joseph became the earthly father to Jesus all because of simple obedience.
As you know by now, our Heart 2 Heart ministry at Pathway is focusing on the Syrian Refugees, which affects more than 12 million people. It is the worst humanitarian crisis in the world today. For these children and families, “normal life” has essentially disappeared. Instead, they are temporary guests in a foreign land where they don’t yet understand their human rights, and where adults have scarce access to jobs. Their children may or may not have access to school. There are 6.6 million people displaced within Syria, 3.3 million displaced in Iraq, more than one million in Lebanon, and 630,000 in Jordan. Your $30 provides a family of four a nutritious meal, a warm blanket and a portion towards a gas heater for the winter. You can still give through the end of the month by going to www.pathwaychurch.com/H2H.
PRAY ABOUT IT!
Dear God, thank You for wanting nothing but the best for us. Thank You for hearing our prayers and knowing our hearts. Thank You, Lord, for the hope we have in Jesus. We love You and we pray that You will mold us and shape us to become humble servants who listen and obey. Amen.
